Jeff Smith

Great Lakes Valley Conference, Associate Commissioner, Communications

Jeff Smith joined the Great Lakes Valley Conference in January 2012, and is concluding his second year as associate commissioner after serving as assistant commissioner, communications.

In addition to managing the communications efforts for the league’s 21 sports and 19 championship events, Smith oversees the conference’s branding efforts, including the GLVC Sports Network (GLVCSN) – the first conference-wide digital streaming network in NCAA Division II.

After streaming 96 GLVC Championship events during the inaugural season of GLVCSN in 2014 - 2015, Smith spearheaded the GLVCSN integration with all 16 member institutions, which has resulted in more than 2,800 streamed events over the last two years.

Smith has implemented the GLVCSN Extra Credit Student Initiative and GLVCSN Student Ambassador program, while creating the GLVC’s NCAA award-winning promotional campaign, GLVCisME.  In January 2017, he led GLVCSN’s collaboration with streaming partner BlueFrame Technology to launch the first over-the-top (OTT) apps in NCAA Division II, including Roku, Apple TV 4th Gen, Amazon Fire TV, and Android TV.

A Bloomington, IN native, Smith came to the GLVC after spending three years managing the public relations, marketing, and operations efforts for the Indy Racing Experience and Experiential Marketing Incorporated in Indianapolis from 2009 - 2012. He joined the GLVC with more than 10 years experience in various capacities in college athletics, most recently as an online contributor for the Big Ten Conference’s website, BigTen.org. Following a technology internship at the Big Ten during the 2003 - 2004 season, the Indiana University graduate completed a three-year stint as the Big Ten’s assistant director of communications from 2004 - 2007.
